Phone! Yup yup yup yup yup...

I decided to try this phone following extended searches for decent phones that didn't cost ridiculous amounts (Apple, Samsung, I'm glaring in your direction). Apparently the Huawei Ascend G300 was a big success for this recent Chinese newcomer, so the G330 was certainly worth a look.First, the down side. If you really look at your phone as a fashion accessory and liked the look of the G300, then don't bother with reading the rest of this. Go buy the latest Nexus or whatever as this phone is pretty bland to look at with the screen off, and there's something of a design flaw in the case back design. It's got a nice feel to it but one end has a habit of creaking if you push too hard and it's a bit flimsy overall, so you have to be careful taking the back off. If, however, you don't mind that and like to use the phone for what it is meant for, I don't believe that you will be unhappy with what you get here. I find that this all improves with a Jelly Gel case anyway.For a start, it has a dual core processor (see the original ad for the details). Sling in a nice, big microSD card and you have plenty of room for whatever takes your fancy. I transplanted the 32GB card from my old Orange San Francisco and that sits just fine.Second, this is an ICS phone. OK, it was a little bit of a jump from my San Fran which has one of the later CyanogenMod flavours of Gingerbread on it, but my previous purchase of an AC1S Sprint 5 tablet helped there. 512MB internal memory was a big improvement over the San Fran which meant that I didn't need to be quite so frugal about apps and it has a fair amount of the extras that you might expect, including GPS and so forth.Cameras face front and back though I'll admit that I rarely use a camphone so you might do better asking around for advice here. Suffice to say that what I did find worked fine.Another thing here is that the model here is known to the world as the U8825-1 phone. This is the single SIM version - there's a double SIM version called the U8825D. If you are interested in rooting, take this into account as there's more difference between these phones than one SIM slot. I put some info on my LiveJournal about that but, simply put, the U8825-1 isn't as easy to root as Huawei don't appear to give out the unlocking code for U8825-1 phones for some inexplicable reason. If, however, you don't mind that bit, then what you get out of the box is fine for most uses.You may also find that it's a good idea to be a bit careful about what you leave switched on when running on the battery. Charge time isn't too bad when using WiFi (2G/3G) or Bluetooth, but give it a boost when you get home!In all, I think this is a great little phone and, given the price, a damn fine deal to boot!
