LCD verses AMOLED screen

After a month of use I love this device and it never leaves my side. It is a beautifully put together piece of equipment. There are only two reasons why I am not giving it five stars.The first is that the case is rounded smooth shiny black plastic. I have fitted mine with a silicone case and I would recommend that everyone else does the same because otherwise it will only be a matter of time before it slips out of your hand on to the floor.Secondly I am a little annoyed at Samsung for fitting it with an LCD screen rather than an AMOLED screen. I want to make a comment about the type of screen which is mentioned in some other reviews.The Nexus S is widely advertised as having an AMOLED screen although there is warning on one review to avoid versions with the standard 'Super LCD' screen. I have written three times to Samsung to get to the bottom of the problem, but they have failed to reply. I think I have found the answer by viewing videos on YouTube.It appears that Nexus's destined for the USA market have the Amoled screen, but Nexus's built for Europe and some other parts of the world have the LCD screen. The European version is the I9023 model which is the one sold on Amazon.co.uk. You will probably find it very difficult to get one of the American models with the Amoled screen in Europe. Samsung appear to be very cagey about this information and seem to be hoping that nobody notices. There is nothing on the device or accompanying documentation to say what type of screen you have.Does it matter? I have a Nexus S with the LCD screen and am very pleased with it. It compares very well with my son's Iphone so there is nothing wrong with the LCD screen. There is a very handy video on YouTube which compares two Nexus's side-by-side in different lights and there is very little difference between the two types of screen and I wouldn't say one looks better than the other. The main difference appears to be that the Amoled screen does not need so much backlighting, so the battery tends to last longer.I find that my Nexus battery lasts all day (unless I have the GPS switched on all day) so battery life is not a problem. Even if it was, spare batteries are cheap and you can even buy a larger battery so I don't think this is a major issue. However, I think that Samsung are being a bit naughty by not making this clear to European buyers.In summary, if you have a choice between the Amoled screen or the LCD screen then go for the Amoled. However you probably won't have a choice. Don't let the LCD screen put you off buying this device because it is a super machine and the LCD screen is still fantastic. My son is planning to replace his Iphone with a Nexus S. I hope that this helps to sort out the controversy over the screens.

i9023 is LCD version, inferior to i9020 official UK Nexus S with Super AMOLED screen.

Please make sure you know what you're buying, this Nexus S i9023 is LCD version, not officially sold in the UK, its cheap and may be good value but Samsung UK may not support these phones. The Nexus S i9020 is officially sold in the UK, it has a far superior Super AMOLED screen but is more expensive.

i recently bought this fantastic phone with great features fom amazon. It was delivered fast no hassle and works fine. it has a brilliant finish body and a fantastic screen size makes it easy to read content from web pages, etc. i like that it was sim free so any sim is compactible with the phone. best price buy i found for a brand new samsung google nexus s :-)
