Rugged little tufty

I'm not a techno geek so I cant fill you in with lots of technical data.I fell out with my "I phone" after it obliterated the music base on my computer.and tried to take over my world.I bought a small samsung Tablet, which is wonderful and so easy to use, butalthough able to be used as a phone, proved awkward in general use due to its size.I needed a smart Phone.I need to use the internet for e mail on the move in work.I need the camera, the calender , The apps are always useful.and I needed all this to fit in my pocket.I checked out all the Samsung phones to find one that fitted the bill.I looked at what I actually needed rather than buy the latest all singing all dancing Model.So I opted for the samsung Galaxy x cover ruggedised.It does all I require on the move, its very user friendly, (intuitive I think it's called)I'm an engineer and work at height climbing around and needed something that would stand knock.its been a few months now and no complaints.The camera is good.Battery lasts all day.easy to use.I don't worry when it gets a knock in my pocket.I love my samsung Tab, and paired with this phone, Brill.

Good, but need to be a phone geek to avoid memory issue

Three things steered me to this phone - it's a Samsung Galaxy, it's waterproof and it's not too big!For me the size is perfect - fits in your pocket and has a reasonable size screen. Having said that, the typing keys can be a bit small and awkward when in "portrait" mode, but rotating the phone to "landscape" makes the keyboard bigger and easier to use.Yes it is waterproof although only for half-an-hour submersion.I am however disappointed with the memory. Although the phone can take up to a 32GB Micro SD card some apps insist on installing onto the phones internal memory - Facebook and Barclays are two typical examples. With these installed you inevitably get "out of memory" issues.Unless you are a phone geek it's difficult to avoid memory issues.I have overcome some issues by installing the Android SDK toolkit on a laptop and running some commands to release the protection on some of the apps, enabling Facebook to be move to the SD card. The Barclays App however refuses to budge as do all the default Samsung Apps (Google books, Maps, Cardio, etc.). Having moved Facebook to the SD card, I thought I was out of the woods, but just a few automatic updates to the default Samsung apps and I have memory errors again!Just a note: the SDK toolkit relies on drivers that are installed with the Samsung Kies software.The next thing I am going to try is to "root" the phone. This should give administrator rights which hopefully will allow me to move the Samsung apps and delete the ones that I never use; probably will void the guarantee though.

good but not as good as an iphone

Great phone for email, text, calendar, but can drop calls. Not easy to answer calls quick either(but this might be just me). Good impact resistant body, but screen still vulnerable ( this is my second S5690 first one dropped from desk onto hard floor glass down, cracked screen). Have used in rain,appears to be resistant to water ingress.Access to some great apps, never thought I would use, weather , news etc, have even shopped on line. Maps great, especially trying to get round new towns on foot, e.g. meetings in London & Coventry, wouldn't have been on time without this. Did not have a choice regarding colour the burnt orange OK, different. But can imagine not everybody's cup of tea.Not as good as an iPhone, due to camera.Best price found on amazon.
