I'm a lover of all things Apple and had been running iPhones for the last few years, as well as having an iPod Touch and a Macbook. However I've found myself getting more and more frustrated with iPhone's dull, grid interface and poor phone performance. They're also ludicrously expensive in terms of up front cost and lack of minutes. I was very impressed with the flexibility and performance of my wife and son's Android phones; at least you can customise the interface and have widgets on the home screen. However I was very taken by the previews and early reviews I saw of the Lumia 800, and once I had a chance to physically handle one in Carphone Warehouse I was sold. So I ordered one on the day it was released and ditched the iPhone. Some people have criticised the specification; 3.7" screen, no front facing camera, single core processor. I have to say I miss none of these. I find the latest generation of big phones, like the Samsung Galaxy IIs, ludicrously big, whereas the Nokia fits beautifully into the hand. The screen may be smaller than some, but is beautifully clear and vibrant because of the AMOLED display with real deep blacks and vibrant colours. In spite of the iPhone's retina display it looks washed out in comparison with the Lumia. I also don't miss the iPhone's front facing camera, as I hardly ever used it. And because Nokia have entered into partnership with Microsoft to produce their new WIndows Phone handsets, hardware and software are beautifully integrated and work seamlessly. As a phone OS, Windows Phone 7.5 (Mango) is much easier to use than iOS because of the large, colourful live tiles, though it's rather different to both iOS and Android and takes a little getting used to. I think it's the best thing Microsoft have done.Physically the phone is lovely, curving nicely into the hand, and with a slightly curved and virtually seamless glass screen. The body itself is seamless, flawlessly made and pleasingly different to the slabby iPhone and Android handsets. It comes with a skin-type case which seems identical in colour and texture to the phone itself, adding useful protection without changing the appearance or adding much bulk. I always found the iPhone 4 a bit hard edged and uncomfortable. The Nokia's also better as a phone, easier to use and holding on to it's signal better. You even get Nokia drive, a very serviceable and useable, if basic, Satnav. I also love the way Mango integrates your personal, Facebook and Twitter contactsThe only reasons it only gets four stars is that, a). the battery life is not as good as the iPhone 4, though about the same is the iPhone 3. You'll be putting it back on charge in the evening if you use it heavily during the day. I just make sure I put it on to charge in the car when I'm driving. And, b). the Windows Phone Marketplace is not so well stocked as those from Apple and Android, though I've been able to find equivalents of most of my favourite apps. I'm sure this'll improve rapidly.Don't get me wrong, I still love iOS for handheld computing and intend to buy an iPAD, but as a phone I prefer the Lumia

Love the Live Tile. very easy to use. love the camera botton - in 5 sec you are ready to take picutres. I am switching from Android. This is so much better than Android phone. YEs New androdi phone has better HW spec, but I am not missing anything.. This phone has much better user interface. At least for me. . . nowadays, HW spec is not so important, uability and integration are they key. Nokia did great job!!

Ok I was being a luddite, my previous phone was the original Google Android phone and although I still rate it, it was getting a little long in the tooth. So I was due an upgrade and decided on the Nokia Lumia 800, Nokia always made good reliable phones so it had to be OK didn't it?In short yes, first off from a purely tactile point of view the phone feels right, its not massive but it sits comfortably in the hand, the buttons are in easy to reach places and there isn't a plethora of controls dotted all over. The included case is a soft touch rubber skin that clips over easily and feels like part of the phone. So OK on to setting it up, it imported all of my facebook friends as contacts but due to the age of my old phone couldn't handle the bluetooth contact exchange, so I had to add a few numbers manually, no big deal, but you can't add a number to a contact off facebook you have to add as a new contact then join the profile, this is simple enough but its an extra step that seems a little pointless. So on to using the phone, ok the interface is really good, simple direct and very very easy to use, the tiles and a responsive touch screen make zipping about a pleasure and really fast, typing on the on screen keyboard works a treat, even with big sausage fingers like mine :) Some others are saying that as an MP3 player it doesn't work, well to be fair the speaker on the phone is a little quiet, but I use mine bluetoothed up to a motorcycle helmet and it works a treat, there are plenty of options on how to play your tunes and you can add your own playlists. So would I recommend it? Yes its all there, decent battery life (I have had no problems at all) camera is decent (but I would take a DSLR if i wanted any proper photos) it is all there as a sleek good looking easy to use package, and a quick mention of nokia drive here, its Nokias own Sat Nav software, has a range of free to download maps and voices works very very well and updates quickly. The single core processor in the phone makes browsing, watching videos and everything a joy, always fast and no lag in performance. The windows operating system is light years away from any other windows mobile stuff I have used in the past and for a change a pleasure. My biggest gripe is Zune, I have never used iTunes and hate those software packages that try to take ove your PC, Zune is one, why can't I have a simple drag and drop interface? But although i dislike the integratedness of Zune, its not terrible to use just an annoyance but it works and it has loads of features that I will never use so thats why it looses a star for Zune. On the whole very very impressed with the phone, very well built, light, very good looking (I have the black one BTW) the screen is sharp, bright and clear. Apart from a couple of small niggles I have I am happy to be stuck with it for the next 18 months till my contact runs out :) Can't say better than that.
